First-Ever Deaf B/Vlogging Conference

January 5, 2007

Gallaudet University’s Coalition for Critical Inquiry is putting together a one-day blogging / vlogging conference to take place on February 3.

Kudos to Gallaudet for recognizing the importance and impact of b/vlogging. Among those invited to participate as panelists include yours truly.

Here’s the official announcement:

Gallaudet University

‘Vlogging/Blogging the Future of Gallaudet’

This conference will be held February 3 at Gallaudet (9 am – 5 pm, location tba)
Organized by the Coalition for Critical Inquiry

Internet communication played a major role during the recent protests at Gallaudet, even catching the attention of media analysts outside the deaf community. Vlogs and blogs were used heavily to share information, publicize fast-breaking news, and debate events and issues. Popular websites generated unprecedented traffic levels and several crashed during the arrests as thousands of people sought live updates from bloggers on the scene. Other sites hosted lengthy discussions about the protest, with people from all corners of the deaf world coming together in sometimes respectful, sometimes raucous debates. What changes will come to Gallaudet as a result of these discussions? How is vlogging/blogging impacting the deaf community? How will new communication technology continue to change the shape of our world?

This one-day conference, organized by the Coalition for Critical Inquiry, will explore these and other questions. Noted deaf vloggers/bloggers will share their experiences and ideas about how Gallaudet and the deaf community should move forward after the protests. Participants have been selected based on quality of previous posts about the protests and represent diverse perspectives in the deaf community. The conference is open to the public and will be available online via realtime captioning and. Voice and ASL interpreters will be provided.

The Coalition for Critical Inquiry provides public forums for objective debate and critical reflection on controversial issues affecting Gallaudet’s future. Membership is open to students, faculty, staff, and teachers. Its goal is to model intellectual dialogue, respect for diverse viewpoints, and commitment to social justice for the Gallaudet and larger deaf community. All events organized by the coalition are committed to presenting a range of perspectves to help members of the community come to informed opinions and decisions.

For more information about the conference or the Coalition, contact Jill.Bradbury@gallaudet.edu

Congratulations on being invited! I would love to go to this!

  • 2. Dave  |  January 5, 2007 at 4:47 pm

Kudos, indeed! Seems like a very varied, well-rounded group of participants. There are some I’ve never heard of but maybe because I don’t spend that much time reading the blogs.

Blogging has definitely changed our Deaf world and all of these bloggers are pioneers. Hands waving.

If I did not live so far away from D.C., I would definitely attend. I’m sure it will be very successful.

  • 3. How odd  |  January 5, 2007 at 5:23 pm

How strange… why isn’t ridorlive included in the blogging conference. He has most readers viewed in the entire blogs/vlogs.

It is a shame that gallaudet university isn’t taking on ridorlive as one of presenters for the conference. Shame on you, Ms. Bradbury.

  • 4. Patti  |  January 5, 2007 at 5:41 pm

What is happening with Ridorlive? Was he invited?

  • 5. Bison Hunter  |  January 5, 2007 at 5:46 pm

This is a cool idea. I hope NTID will do the same.

Personally, I think Ridor’s blog stinks. I’m glad to see he wasn’t invited. I bet that was a big ego blow. So what if he has the most hits. The qualify of his blogs are nothing like true bloggers such as Mike McConnell. Ridor gets off on attacking people and writing about negative things. Its makes for an interesting read on occassion but it is counterproductive and hurtful to the deaf community.

  • 6. Ridor for President  |  January 5, 2007 at 6:03 pm

Funny, I just came here from Ridor’s blog. I know a lot of ppl feel it’s trashy but I enjoy his blog. It’s entertaining like the National Equirer. And like the Equirer, I take what I read there with a grain of salt. I don’t think anyone really takes his blog seriously. At the same time, he is one of the best known D/deaf bloggers.

I think it would be interesting to see what Ridor has to say about blogging. Gallaudet should reconsider and invite him.

  • 7. Jean Bout  |  January 5, 2007 at 6:04 pm

Congratulations to all of you who are invited.

    Bonne chance à tous
    Jean Boutcher

  • 8. Scott Anderson  |  January 5, 2007 at 6:19 pm

Why not invite Patti Raswant, Vikee Waltrip, Sheri Mutti?

  • 9. Foxy Lady  |  January 5, 2007 at 6:26 pm

It is first-time conference so maybe they are starting it small. They can’t invite every single one on the planet. I think they just pick the ones they liked best. At first I thought maybe they just pick who did graduate from Gally. But then I did realized some are not Gally graduates like Jared and Shane.

  • 10. Ridor for President  |  January 5, 2007 at 6:45 pm

Someone just told me that several of those invited don’t actually have their own blogs!

  • 11. KD  |  January 5, 2007 at 7:06 pm

Congratulations everyone! It will be great to finally put some faces to all these names. I feel like I know many of you intimately through your blogging.

    I will definitely be there!
    ~KD

  • 12. A stink coming  |  January 5, 2007 at 7:08 pm

Who cares what Vikee Waltrip and Sheri Mutti have to say? Do they have active blogs? NO.

Mark my words. Our beloved Ridor will probably make a stink about not being invited.

  • 13. Cranberry  |  January 5, 2007 at 8:01 pm

Poor selection. Some of those participants do not blog/vlog much like Joey, Ron, and Ridor do. Where is Ron’s name (Save Gallaudet!)? And Ridor?

Is it cuz Ms. Bradbury can’t stand Ridor for he’s gay?

    Congrat Joey!

  • 14. Raised Eyebrow  |  January 5, 2007 at 8:04 pm

There were bloggers with active blogs who weren’t invited, too. Bibliomarket. Woparsb. Jamie Berke. Teri Sentelle. Brian Riley. Also – cartoon bloggers like Maureen Klusza, Tony McGregor, and Dan McClintock. (See Jean Boucher’s comment in DCDeaf.com under its recent post.) All those bloggers made contributions to Deaf Blogland that should be considered worth their invitation to the conference. Upon what criteria did the organizers select those bloggers? As someone noted, some of the invitees didn’t have their own blogs, and some didn’t even graduate from Gallaudet!

  • 15. Cranberry  |  January 5, 2007 at 8:20 pm

Agreed, indeed! Might the organizers have no such criteria. Ms. Bradbury shall do her homework before selection took place. Oh boy!

  • 16. Non-Blogger  |  January 5, 2007 at 9:04 pm

I have no problem with the selection. Just like the Bay Area Gala, the organizers can invite whoever they want. You don’t like it, set up your own conference.

I forsee that 2007 is going to be the year of Deaf Blogging. Right now there are about two dozen blogs on DeafRead. I predict that will increase to over 100 by the end of the year. Most of us won’t have time to read the blogs or keep up.

  • 17. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 5, 2007 at 9:09 pm

Chris, I like you! I did not expect this out of you. When I heard of this — I thought it was offensive and lame of Jill to exclude the ones that is well-known across the nation — she chose these so-called wannabe bloggers (many of them just started after August 2006 or even wrote only ONE entry of all!) and excluded great bloggers like Patti Raswant, Joseph Rainmound and moi.

Let’s say … I asked Jill nicely. She attacked me via email. I’m going to drag not through the mud but through the gravel road.

Ricky Taylor does a fabulous job at blogging. He reaches deaf people more than any other deaf blogger that I have read. He knows how to communicate with deaf people. He is the most influenical blogger of all. Others do a good job, but it is not the same thing. Ricky speaks from heart. He touches all of us. He should be involved with this because he understands more than anyone else. Yes, some thing may be trashy, but overall, he is very good at feeling the pulse of deaf community. I feel like he is part of family while I don’t feel that way with other bloggers. That should say something…..

  • 19. Brian Riley  |  January 5, 2007 at 9:50 pm

Hey, I wouldn’t be able to attend anyway because my PNG has not been reversed yet….

    :(

  • 20. want some cheese?  |  January 5, 2007 at 9:55 pm

want some cheese with your whine?

me doth think y’all complain too much.

  • 21. Through the grapevine  |  January 5, 2007 at 10:25 pm

I learned that the sponsor cancelled to invite one of the panelists at the last minute because of his his child who was one of the arrested protesters.

  • 22. DeafLinux  |  January 5, 2007 at 11:52 pm

Diversity of bloggers are important. There is a need for a balanced kinds of people. Someone mentioned somewhere about a person of sexual prefereneces and it is not because it is about the quality of news that are reported. Bring all people in one group and share their talents. There is plenty room for more bloggers. Different perspectives and insights are what the mass are looking for.

Deaf blog visitors can read also learn how to write better including myself. We must not try to divide English and ASL. ASL in my opinion is English in visual form. ASL is a very powerful visual language which includes body and facial expressions. This puts people in awe when a native signer expresses their thoughts via the video blog.

Diversity brings everyone into one big umbrella.

  • 23. Benji  |  January 6, 2007 at 12:10 am

I bet Brian Riley posted that comment suggesting himself. His blog is crap plus he’s hearing. He can dream on.

  • 24. MikeS  |  January 6, 2007 at 12:10 am

Am I glad this event isn’t held in the Bay Area. D.C., your turn. Ridor and some others should be invited, but I guess elitism is universal. Opps. Thinking out too loud, sorry.

  • 25. huh?  |  January 6, 2007 at 12:32 am

    Jill Bradbury,
You must invite Ricky Taylor to this conference!!
I read his blogs and I actually learned alot from him.

  • 26. IMHO  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:12 am

Jill made right decision not to invite the likes of Ricky Taylor. He’s nasty and writes mostly ugly trash.

  • 27. Cranberry  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:37 am

    :(

  • 28. MM  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:50 am

I think RIdor is much more preferable than the dis-information services to deaf people the Gally protestors put out,the protes twas won online for sure, but there are grave doubts it was n honest campaign, and one that was won online. Ridor was more neutral and the viewing speaks for itself, I’ll treat every gally blog with considerable suspicion now… I’m rather suss Gally is ‘pioneering’ stuff given their present dubious blogging record. That’s the net, they can’t own that !

  • 29. Vics  |  January 6, 2007 at 3:20 am

Ridoe neutral? Have you been smoking crack? He’s the most biased blogger I’ve ever read and has clearly admitted to being so!

  • 30. MJ  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:23 am

You need to realize that Jill Bradbury did invite some other bloggers/vloggers, but they declined for different reasons. Honoraium, too low, etc. Some bloggers/vloggers have primary jobs. No interest in becoming involved with the conference. Because they are not on the list, it does not mean Jill did not invite them.

  • 31. Snowie  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:41 am

Ridor’s blog may be nasty at times – but did people complain about the newspapers when they went revealing all about Bill Clinton and Monica whatever-her-surname-is?

There are so much dirt in the Deaf Community – and that many deafies control the majority using fear and lies etc – Ridor is trying his part in making the Deaf Community more accountable, open and transparent – that is what I want to see the Deaf Community to be like.

There will be fallen heads, naturally – a better society ALWAYS come with a price…if it wasn’t for Ridor, there wont be the second Gallaudet Revolution like that – he even risked his health trying to keep everyone informed – most of my contacts in Gally kept telling me ‘Check with Ridor, he ll have the details” and on Ridor’s blog, he ll say ‘Check with others – such as Elisa etc”

Many Europeans are delighted to know that the bitchness going on in the deaf community in the USA is much the same as their deaf communities back home in Europe.

It is a real shame that Ms Bradbury shot herself in both feet – she knew how strong the impact on the Second Gallaudet Revolution Ridor had.

    Ach, surdophobia eh?

  • 32. peachpit  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:46 am

Why no Ridor? Simple, they want there to be a second annual blogging conference.

  • 33. Martin G.  |  January 6, 2007 at 5:17 am

Ridor is being a cry baby. He needs to get over it.

My congratulations to all who were chosen.

  • 34. Albert W  |  January 6, 2007 at 5:55 am

Many of us have huge respect for Ridor. He has impacted many of us about Jordan. He was right all along. I start with elizabeth and ridor s blogs every single morning. They are wonderful. I hope Ridor shows up anyway. Please, Ridor, go and show them that you are not intimated by Jill or anyone. I am looking forward to meet Elizabeth. Keep fighting for amnesty the reprisals. Healing process is not starting yet. Remember President Ford started the nation healing because he pardoned President Nixon for his crime. Is Bot listening??? Bloggers, please keep fighting for these people. Thanks Savegallaudet for saying that, too.

  • 35. Patti  |  January 6, 2007 at 5:56 am

I notice that Jill invited many “neat, tasty” bloggers to make Gallaudet to look good. Come on, Jill! I do like RidorLive, eventhough, he sometimes have made nasty tone which enterains me in many ways. RidorLive have received 1.5M visitors, therefore, he is very popluar in his blog. I visited other bloggers and they sometimes gets me unenterained!

    This is America!

  • 36. Deaf Truth  |  January 6, 2007 at 6:51 am

This is too bad for Ridor!

It is more RidorDEAD! Not RidorLIVE!

His bloggings have become dull and boring these days!

There is new crop of deaf bloggers that are interesting and fun.

It is time to tell Ridor good bye!

Who cares about him? He is ancient history now!

  • 37. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 6:59 am

    To #23

No, Benji. Someone else brought up my name on this thread, but I don’t want to attend anyway. Frankly, I’m exhausted from the protest and need a rest.

It’s pretty obvious that you are smearing my name, especially since you use a fake name. You are probably a Jordan supporter. Anyway, that’s what people will think if you use a fake name and smear people who supported the protest.

    BR

  • 38. Benji  |  January 6, 2007 at 7:08 am

Brian, Benji is my real name. Your “if you don’t agree with me you’re a jordan supporter” bullshit is getting old.

Hearing people have a place in our community but you really cross the line. You really rub people the wrong way.

  • 39. Jean Boutcher  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:36 am

Regarding Brian Riley: I think that he has not been invited because he is a hearing person.

As of Jaime Berke: To me, she is an INFORMANT about deaf history — not a blogger. She reposts what other bloggers blog.
To be a blogger, one needs to write something original — with very original thoughts or opinions. See la différence.

I may be wrong on both counts.

    Jean Boutcher

  • 40. Mr. Sandman  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:42 am

    Jean,

Jamie also has a blog, which she set up recently to be able to speak out on issues separately from her responsibilities at About.com. It’s “Berke Outspoken” at berkeoutspoken.blogspot.com.

So she’s both an observer/informant and a blogger.

MJ at #30 is correct– I happen to know of a couple bloggers who were invited, but for one reason or another, chose not to participate.

  • 41. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:42 am

I just realized something. The conference falls during the Winter Deaflympics. I rather to be in Salt Lake City than to deal with these novice and fake bloggers.

Not only that, who wants to debate about non-controversial topics? Certainly not me.

Martin G.: You’re full of crap. I did not whine — when I heard of it, I was amused more than being appalled. But at least, I have some dirt on Jill Bradbury to laundry.

  • 43. Jill Bradbury  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:47 am

I’m happy to see so much interest in this conference. I wanted to clarify a few issues that have been raised about the people invited to attend. First, this conference was not intended to focus primarily on blogging/vlogging. Rather, my original goal was to focus on what Gallaudet needs to do to reorient and thrive after the protests. I asked people to attend whose blogs/vlogs contained insightful, forward-looking, and innovative ideas about this topic. I went with people whose work I was familiar with and also sought input from other vloggers/bloggers. There are hundreds of high quality deaf vloggers/bloggers; it’s not possible to include them all. No slight at all is intended to those who were not invited.

Let me repeat – this conference was originally conceived as not about vlogging/blogging per se, but about Gallaudet’s future. It has, to some extent, evolved to focus on the impact of vlogging/blogging on the deaf community, but the selection of participants still reflects my original conceptualization. It was never my intention to include the most popular/influential vloggers/bloggers. I invited people based on their ideas, not their cyber lifespan, quantity of posts or quantity of hits. This is why some participants would not “technically” be considered bloggers (though to me, this raises the interesting question of definition. What, exactly, qualifies someone to be called a vlogger/blogger?)

Second, this conference associated with the new Coalition for Critical Inquiry. The goals of this organization are two-fold: 1)to provide public forums for objective debate and critical reflection on issues arising from the Unity for Gallaudet protests. 2) to model intellectual dialogue, respect for diverse viewpoints, and commitment to social justice for the Gallaudet and larger deaf community (check out our developing web page at ccigally.info). Vloggers/ bloggers whose work does not adhere to these criteria were not invited. This does not mean that I don’t consider their work to be important to the deaf community. I intend to have a particular kind of dialogue (respectful, thoughtful, and proactive) at the conference, and I make no apologies for that decision.

A third selection criteria was to show a diversity of perspectives in the deaf community. This is why some vloggers/bloggers may be less familiar to the general deaf community. Some were chosen to represent gender/ racial/ cultural/ communication modality diversity within the deaf community.

Finally, this conference is NOT organized by Gallaudet, but by myself under the aegis of an organization I started to encourage public analysis of issues connected to the protest. The CCI has no funds except what we can raise individually. When I first started organizing the conference, I kept it small because I didn’t know where I’d get the money to pay for flights, hotels, interpreters, etc. I’ve been fortunate to have strong interest develop from people inside and outside the university as I make progress, but we are still working with a very small budget. To anyone who feels dissatisfied with the scope of the conference, I strongly encourage you to organize your own show. Thanks for taking the time to read this post and allowing me to clear up some rumors and misconceptions.

  • 44. Jill Bradbury  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:52 am

To the person who left comment #21, could you please say which person was supposedly disinvited because his child was arrested during the protests? I would like to dispell that rumor, which is completely false. No one’s invitation was cancelled for any reason.

  • 45. Mr. Sandman  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:19 am

Ricky– so you’re saying people like Joey Baer, Elizabeth, Elisa, and your own “Man of the Year” are “novices” and “fakes”?

I’d be careful when making broad and sweeping statements.

If you’re not already in SLC, hope to see you there- I understand there will be time during the panel for questions and comments from the audience, and would be very curious as to your opinions and thoughts!

  • 46. MM  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:19 am

Anything ‘IN’ Deaf-wise you have to treat with suspicion these days, if anything it showed us how blogs can be used to plug blatant and one-sided causes in our deaf world.

Deaf people do innovate, but the message is so biased and singular, and many found after the deaf got involved on the net, the sites set up by the ‘community’ were not worth entering if you wanted to discuss realissues. I fear it’s better to read the widest possible blogs you can, Deaf in the UK set up a ’specialist’ site for signers, then operated it like a closed shop, editing out those who disagreed and banning those determined to operate free speech.

Via the Gally thing there was a concerted America proved that even women’s rights didn’t count for much when it came to it…there was concerted attempt to shout down anyone who disagreed with the protest, it got personal VERY quickly, and exposed the myth of the Unity’ they professed, (And still try to), the damage is DONE, theycan’t gloss it over.

it’s unity at a price obviously, CONFORMITY ! To think we fought WW2 to rid of us people like that. The right to abuse ‘Rights’ is not what anyone fights for, or will put up with.

  • 47. anomyous  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:51 am

    LOL, Ridor,

Let’s bring Jill into the laundry room. I do not buy Jill’s view on #43. At this point, she did not recognize RidorLive’s accomplishments and awards. Plus, the 1.05M visitors.

I do not care if RidorLive has some nasty tones in his and this blog.Clearly to me is that Jill does not want to use Ridor’s the most controversial blogging in the Gallaudet campus.

As the fact in the last paragraph of Jill’s #43 is that the blog/vlog conference will be at GALLAUDET. Galluadet provides the bloggers/vbloggers to be in the conference. For free? I do not believe you, Jill.

Obviously, you control the bloggers and vbloggers.

Go back to the ranch to clear up more, Jill!

  • 48. Jack  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:55 am

No Big Deal.. i am sure that ricky got high praise from other sources than gally.. He did awesome with his blog.. he make you read the articles of his.. so he keep you interested.. ofc he make a lot ppl disagreed to agreed.. he stir our thoughts for issues as related to our rights and school for deaf kids and blah .. he did great. job.. i am sure that business dept of gally would like to have you to speak a speech to run the blog and internets.. you are fine good business man ricky…He bring a lot deaf to gather and share informations thru his blgs..

  • 49. peachpit  |  January 6, 2007 at 10:14 am

Nice to see ricky being so childish, as always.

As for riley: you must be exhausted, being a hero and all. lol. To the organizers, good luck with your conference, don’t let little rickys smear campaign affect y’all.

  • 50. anomyous  |  January 6, 2007 at 10:31 am

I don’t buy Jill’s explanations at all. The other bloggers did question and/or attack the interests of the university during the protests like Ridor did. She’s biased against him obviously. Riley? Are you kidding me? I sick of his name throwing all the time. He always promised big things that will happen during protests and I waited and waited and nothing. It was the students and alumni and general public that affected this protest, nothing from him. His delusions of someone in college hall is attacking him got very old. I agree with Jean that Berke is just an informant and I don’t like her choices of articles, mostly medical-pathological issues on deafness. Her other blog wasn’t that active.

  • 51. shelbycockrell  |  January 6, 2007 at 10:55 am

    Congratulations. What is vlogging?

  • 52. mcconnell  |  January 6, 2007 at 11:53 am

vlogging is like blogging except there is a video component to it rather than a written one. Either talk, sign or mime your way through on whatever topic at hand.

Congrats to all those who were invited and decided to come for the conference. It’s truly the first ever such conference to take place at Gallaudet and will add an important historical note to Gallaudet’s history.

  • 53. Deaf Truth  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:18 pm

The numbers that Ridor did have is probably false. The survey in his blogs is always small number. So he may have been fudging the numbers.

I am glad for a new generation of bloggers who have more respect, dignity and factual.

Congrats to those who are going to Gallaudet. Shame on Ridor for his negative attitude toward other bloggers!! He is a fake! He is going to fall off the high horse soon!

  • 54. Dale R. Patterson  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:39 pm

The only people that think Ridor has the most popular blog in the deaf community are Ridor and the five people who read him.

The only place Ricky “Send me $$ so I can go to Paris and sit in a hot tub” Taylor needs to be sent is back to his Mommy’s basement.

This guy is a blight on the deaf community – for proof read his recent “I know deaf people don’t make much money, but send me some anyway so I can take a vacation” post!

It’s people that think everyone else owes them a living that makes the other 99.9% of the Deaf Community look bad!

  • 55. Sherry  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:40 pm

Thank you Dr. Bradbury for your insightful comments. Your reasoning is sound and makes perfect sense.

Ridor is behaving like a two year old. I never thought about it until someone mentioned above but how many of his hits are real and how many fake? Good point about the polls. Why so few answer if he gets 10,000 hits per day as he claims.

  • 56. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 1:41 pm

    Benji,

If you are not a Jordan supporter, then you should have no reason to criticize me. I haven’t done anything wrong.

Contact me privately so that you can learn about my involvement. The only times people felt “rubbed the wrong way” was when I was involved in trying to defeat Jordan. That’s all. It was a strategy and there were deaf people behind the scenes helping me and telling me what to do.

Remember, I deliberately stirred up the pot as a part of protest strategy. That’s not even my normal personality. OK?

You need to contact me privately to become informed on what was going on and who I am. You shouldn’t be attacking me without knowing all the facts.

Yes leave Mr. Riley alone because he’s a “hero” (snickers).

  • 58. UK Georgie  |  January 6, 2007 at 2:09 pm

It sounds like a swell conference. We are considering setting up a similiar one here in UK.

  • 59. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 2:21 pm

Carl, when I first used that word I was talking about a whole group of people being heroes, then Lindsay Dunn used it as a technique to smear me.

Lay off me, OK? There’s no reason to criticize me.

Contact me privately to discuss the issue so that you know what’s been going on:

  • 62. OSU  |  January 6, 2007 at 3:19 pm

Jill Bradbury should be Person of the Year for her visionary leadership. I have the utmost respect and admiration for her and her many outstanding contributions to our community of which this conference is only one. Hands waving for Jill!

  • 63. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 3:57 pm

    Carl,

You really don’t know what was going on behind the scenes. OK? You don’t understand that I was DELIBERATELY acting a role–I was deliberately stirring up trouble as a protest strategy.

Does that make more sense to you now?

  • 64. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 6, 2007 at 3:58 pm

Whale Fatterson, nice to see that you’re still reading my blog. Finish falling on your infant? LOL.

Deaf Truth: I’m no technical whiz when it comes to fudge the numbers. The counter is as is. You can speculate all you want. But you cannot deny the irrefutable truth that RidorLIVE.com is popular.

  • 65. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:07 pm

    Mr Sandman: Don’t start.

The majority of the so-called bloggers are not what I defined as bloggers.

Elisa is. MishkaZena is not (Because she has not passed more than 6 months to qualify one). Joey Baery is vlogger, not blogger.

Many wrote once a month. Many just set up their own blogs during the autumn season. And a couple of them only wrote ONLY once and suddenly, they are all bloggers?

Oh, please, wake up from that dream you’re enjoying.

    Cheers,

  • 66. Empower Yourself  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:13 pm

    Jill,
I’m a Deaf Black woman and I think it’s awesome that you also chose based on to “represent gender/ racial/ cultural/ communication modality diversity within the deaf community.”

The number of female bloggers are slowly growing but still outnumbered by male bloggers. Also, there are not very many people of color blogging. I noticed you have at least two people of color on your panel such as Chris and Kristi. I think this is great! I’m know them both and am very big fans of both of them.

It shows that you are really striving to put together a diverse conference that is a better reflection of our overall community. Thank you.

  • 67. the gryphon  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:19 pm

LOL Riley. You KNOW you’ve personally called yourself a hero.

  • 68. Aidan Mack  |  January 6, 2007 at 4:33 pm

Firstly, Please let me congratulate to all who were chosen.

Secondly, I also congratulate to Jean Bradbury for hosting a very first Deaf Vlog and Blog conference. I know it is challenging to please everyone.

    But…

I don’t agree with Jean’s approach by saying this, “To anyone who feels dissatisfied with the scope of the conference, I strongly encourage you to organize your own show.”

    This represents division.

It will spread very thin if everyone hosts his or her own show and no one will show up because everyone host “the same event on same day”.

At least Jean could have said, “I am sorry that I couldn’t meet everyone’s satisfaction. I will put into consideration how I can enhance our service to customers who aren’t satisfaction next year. I hope you will attend and support this event.”

I also have a concern about hosting a conference and at same time as Deaflympics events. I would love to go to Vlog and Blog conference but I couldn’t. It is because I am going to Deaflympics to support USA athletes.

The number of Deaf people in community is small. I encourage everyone to work together collaboratively and check each other to make sure not to conflict their schedule. Dwight Benedict worked very hard to draw fans to attend and to support Deaflympics.

I know Ricky well enough that he would not freak out if there were no reason. But again, I don’t want to judge. I am going to leave between Jean and Ricky. I hope they will
resolve their issues because both of them have so much to offer to Deaf community.

  • 70. Zeiss  |  January 6, 2007 at 5:21 pm

Who would want to pick Ridor the Rumormonger? I wouldn’t.

  • 71. Boycott!  |  January 6, 2007 at 5:47 pm

Congrats on the invite! I love vlogging my thoughts :-)

  • 73. mcconnell  |  January 6, 2007 at 6:25 pm

    It’s “Jill Bradbury”…not Jean.

Carmen, it’s an open conference available to all. The only limitation is seating availability.

  • 74. boycott ridor!  |  January 6, 2007 at 6:38 pm

Let’s boycott Ridor instead and boycott all his advertisers!

Its lame how he’s begging people for donations on his blog when he gets money for advertising while he sits on his fat ass living off our tax dollars.

    Get a job Ridor!

  • 75. Zach Ennis  |  January 6, 2007 at 7:00 pm

I’m willing to bet all the money I have that most of the critics of RidorLIVE.com here is regular readers of his blog. I can’t understand why you all are trying to pull a crab theory here on Ricky Taylor and Brian Riley. Ridor never whined, if he isnt invited then it’s the conference’s loss not Ricky Taylor’s loss.

I would like for you critics to make a blog with more hits than RidorLIVE.com, since you all seem to act like you all are capable of doing so. Thanks.

  • 76. Blue Fox  |  January 6, 2007 at 7:27 pm

I glorify Ms. Jill Bradbury along with her good judgment choosing the right bloggers except for Carl Shroeder. He mocked at JKF physically and mentally sickly. I am sorry to say that but it is true.
Jill is right about not inviting Ridor after he told me to be butchered after he deleted my comment supporting Dr. Jane Fernandes. He can be very rude.
It is very important for the bloggers to have high moral standing influencing the deaf community.
Some bloggers such as B. Riley and Elizabeth Zinner made unnecessarily TOO MANY ugly statements against JKF that the public is about to lose interest in the deaf people of the world. The deaf world is too small for both Dr. King Jordan and JKF to be “HUNG” high.
    Thank you again, Jill.

  • 77. boycott ridor!  |  January 6, 2007 at 7:43 pm

  • 80. Alicia Romain  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:06 pm

Ricky is not only a rude blogger, he also earns money from advertisers to send me many scam and dangerous emails that can damage my computer. I think he should go to jail for doing that.

  • 81. Blue Fox  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:13 pm

Please excuse me for making an error on the name Elizabeth Zinner, I mean Elizabeth Gillipse.
My hat off for Jill again.

  • 82. tulip  |  January 6, 2007 at 8:28 pm

As always, Chris’ comment threads generate large posts!

There are many other reptuble bloggers who were not invited including Jamie Berke, Biblomarket, Deaf Tea Time, Woparsb’s Xanga, Roblog, MM, all of whom had written many Gallaudet-related posts as well as many other interesting, intelligent, and quality posts. There are so many bloggers now. Perhaps next year?

Notice I did not include Ridor? Enough said…

  • 83. Echo  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:13 pm

    Tulip,

You just gave away more hints! Thanks! I knew it were you, the buttface. I could not believe you include your blog, Deaf Tea Time as one of many so-called reptuble bloggers. My God! You are so full of yourself. You definitely have a severe narcissistic personality disorder! Butt out!

  • 84. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:14 pm

    Gryphon,

There’s nothing funny about it. What’s so funny?

If you were being attacked like I was, then you would stand up for yourself, too. I didn’t elevate myself above the group of heroes. If you think I did, then you’re wrong and you are making very irresponsible comments.

The greatest heroes were the protesters who took over HMB and risked their lives, knowing that a confrontation with the police could prove fatal, as it did with Carl Dupree.

  • 85. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:23 pm

    #50

Obviously, you are a Jordan sympathizer trying to smear my name with more false propaganda.

If what you say is true, then why did this happen:

    http://gallyprotest.org/png.pdf

Stand up like a man and tell us your name. Otherwise, shut up.

  • 86. Wolmah  |  January 6, 2007 at 9:31 pm

Can’t help but laugh. Don’t you all realize that there were VERY few bloggers and vloggers before Gallaudet Protest had occured. After the event begun, everyone jumped on the wagon while learning how to vlog and blog.

It is not bad thing here…the bad thing here is the jealousy of being picked or picked. Cut the crap, we are all one community, why divide between us?

It is like, choosing president to lead the country, not two or three president. We all have to back up the president one way or other. We need to back up those who were picked and respresent the community of vlogger and bloggers.

Congrats to you all who are able to educate or discuss the future of our media.

    Deafeye

  • 87. JBrown  |  January 6, 2007 at 10:26 pm

    Brian Riley,
It was you who stirred up the deaf community while you are hearing yourself which is shameful. Speaking of Carl Dupree, yes I am sorry about his death but he asked for it after kicking or punching so hard into a policewoman’s stomach that she was hospitalized and almost died. DPS never killed Carl out of the blue period! Quit blaming on DPS, IKJ or others in the administration. Your blog never impressed me, it was sad that you brainwashed many deaf to cooperate with you to start the protest. Why did you do that? Just to feel superior? I am sure you dream of making a book, “Heroes Terminated the Terrifying Villain, JF” with pictures of yourself smiling as a hero like DPN book. I am sure the historicans’ socks will be knocked off after knowing the exact reason for the protest led by rascals like you..

  • 88. Brian Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 11:07 pm

    J Brown,

    You are sad, man.

Virtually the entire Deaf World rose up in anger against the rigged presidential selection process.

Jordan’s PPD men THROUGH METAL PIPES at protesters and then scooped up their tents WITHOUT WARNING TO SEE IF PROTESTERS WERE INSIDE!

Gallaudet students made the decision themselves when they made the firm decision not to back down, no matter what.

  • 89. tulip  |  January 6, 2007 at 11:33 pm

Lord, Echo, you are like a rabid pit bull. I am not who you think.

  • 90. Sick of Riley  |  January 6, 2007 at 11:39 pm

I think Riley just likes to hear himself talk. Please take this conversation over to his blog. I’m sick of hearing his name.

  • 91. JBrown  |  January 6, 2007 at 11:41 pm

No one was inside the tent. Maybe one. Everyone else were inside the buildings. The tents were just for decoy. The protesters were tricky. They used pagers to return to the tents if anything happens. One protester told Washington Post that he did not stay in the tent all night but stayed inside the building in a meeting while he stayed with his girlfriend in her room. The protesters had been trying to show how goody-goody they were in front of the public while almost all of you were mischieviously having fun attacking JK. Now all of you are walking like zombies having nothing to do, Maybe you will invent another protest whining about ASL. Too religious about ASL. ASL is just like Ebony among the black people that won’t help with English improvement such as “I ain’t gonna see ya for nothing,”

  • 92. Saunière  |  January 7, 2007 at 2:00 am

Wow. Didn’t we learn ANYTHING at all from the last round of bashing and backstabbing? What’s with the personal attacks? Chris’s post (this time) and many of the responses here are well-reasoned and some are quite positive. But there is a lot of character assassination. This is not going to help anyone. Let’s disagree with civility, people.

  • 93. Year of the Goat  |  January 7, 2007 at 2:29 am

Blogging became popular during the protest as it was a way for us to keep informed of what was going on. Without the blogs I don’t think the protest would have gained as much momentum. I think this blogger conference is an excellent idea.

Suggestion: How about adding a “How to Blog” section for those of us who are interested in starting our own blogs?

Question: How many People of Color are actually on the panel?

Yes. Technology is helping to connect us better. I only wish I understood computers better. If I did, I would start my own blog.

  • 96. Brian Riley  |  January 7, 2007 at 7:16 am

    J Brown,

If you think you are helping Jordan and JK, you are not. You are not addressing the main points of the protest. Apparently you do not know enough facts about what you are talking about.

    1) It was started on May 1, 2006 when the people in the audience saw that Jordan had DPS officer Patrick Rader waiting to apprehend anyone who disagreed with JK’s selection. That shows that the process was rigged. Jordan was seen giving Rader the signal when Ryan started walking down the aisle.

    2) Almost the entire Deaf World rose up in protest.

    3) The Board reversed their decision, which means that the Board admitted that the protesters were right all along and that JK was not the right person for the job.

    4) The students who took over HMB in an act of civil disobedience were extremely brave, because they knowlingly risked their lives for the cause.

    5) As a reward for following orders and perpetuating more oppression on campus by apprehending Ryan C on May 1, Jordan promoted Patrick Rader to the rank of Captain, giving more evidence that the Jordan administration was corrupt.

  • 97. BlackPower  |  January 7, 2007 at 7:32 am

Hands waving in air for Kristi Merriweather and Chris Leon! I know you will make us proud.

  • 98. Mike from ASD  |  January 7, 2007 at 7:55 am

I agree with you Sherry that Ridor probably fakes the number. My friend did show me before how can do to reset counter and change whatever you want number to whatever. I bet you $100 dollars that he do increase it himself everyday.

  • 99. jt  |  January 7, 2007 at 8:04 am

    Riley,
King Jordan is not stupid, he already observed the staff and students before he declared at the auditorium. He knew there would be some disagreements and he needed an officer for protection. The Deaf protesters can be senseless. I have seen in one of vlogs how someone signed wildly almost knocked JKF down and he even touched her out of rage. My jaw dropped that I understood her better than I could understand the wild ASL guy.

  • 100. Pamela  |  January 7, 2007 at 8:12 am

    Ms. Bradbury,
Thank u for organizing this blogger / vlogger conference. I was wondering how many of those participating are Gallaudet students? I noticed two from NTID/RIT. I know it is not a requirement but was just wondering.

To the rest of you, can you stay on the subject? The Gallaudet protest is over. –Pam

  • 101. MM  |  January 7, 2007 at 8:41 am

From a UK perspective, I don’t see Ridor’s blog any more biased than the Gally one. THe key to blogging is you read as boradly as possible and take no-ones statement as ‘true’, you in effect THINK.

Once you invite via selection, then you discriminate, who wants a seminar full of yes people ? As for ‘UK Georgie’ suggesting the UK is considering the same, THAT is bull too ! They’d have to invite me, at least on the basis I’ve had more blogs viewed than any of them, despite desperate and pathetic attempts to close me down, which as any American peruser of it will know hardly warrants a ban…. you don’t like it, you ignore it, simple.

UK deaf cannot handle individualism. They can’t take rejection either…

  • 102. jt  |  January 7, 2007 at 9:01 am

    Riley again,
do u mean that Ryan is the same guy who drank beer and jumped with joy with his mouth looking like a rabid pitbull that night in Washington Post photo? I was not interested in the protest until this photo brought me to read further into the protest. At first I thought Jane F. was running after the students and staff as a murderer with an ax in her hand as the protesters tried to label her.
No, she was a harmless lady who never associated with the deaf people until 22. That protest was just for the Deaf to feel superior and excited, that’s all.
Riley are you satisfied with all the excitement yet?
I do not see much media about Gallaudet University anymore. Betcha the media scratched their heads now.

  • 103. chrisH  |  January 7, 2007 at 9:03 am

I begin to suspect that Ridor probably fakes the high number and he seems to know how to fix the numbers.

  • 104. Blue Fox  |  January 7, 2007 at 9:37 am

    ChrisH,
You may be right because I figured that the peak started last October and I gave it 100 days and divded it by one million instead of his 1.5 million declaration, 10,000 readers per day. Not true so I even divided 1.5 million by 360 days and it showed 4,166 per day. My Lord, Ridor was lying. Good thing Jill is brilliant enough not to invite him. May Ridor go away now.

  • 105. the gryphon  |  January 7, 2007 at 10:09 am

Ridor deletes comments he disagrees with. I would not be surprised if he posts compliments to himself as well.

Oh. Riley: lol @ you. Time to get a life.

  • 106. Wolmah  |  January 7, 2007 at 10:45 am

  • 110. Forgive But Unforgetten  |  January 7, 2007 at 12:13 pm

    MovernShaker,
You are perfectly right about Deaf vs Deaf should not be done. Soooooo right, my goodness.
How come Jane Fernandes is deaf herself with many ignorant deafies eagle-eyed at her and would have hung or burnt her if not for the US constitution? The world is puzzled about that….deaf against deaf.

  • 111. Dale R. Patterson  |  January 7, 2007 at 12:14 pm

One should never assume their answer is the only answer – there are several other perfectly plausible ideas beside your own!

It’s also entirely possible that given his yeaars of experience in dealing with Gallaudet Students that Jordan knew that every student who wasn’t personally consulted on the Presidential search would immediately be offended.

    2) Almost the entire Deaf World rose up in protest.
Not even close. I find it amusing that when some folks in the deaf community want to show the immense size of our community every single person with the slightest hearing loss is counted (that famous “10% of all Americans” number) but when you want to show the solidarity of the deaf community (an oxymoron if ever I heard one!) then the deaf community shrinks to just those folks in your Blackberry© address book.

    3) The Board reversed their decision, which means that the Board admitted that the protesters were right all along and that JK was not the right person for the job.

The board reversed their decision because they had to get back to work. I can assure you that had the protest gone on much longer, Gallaudet’s Federal funding would have been in jeopardy. Like good babysitters, they picked their fights and gave in so the baby would stop crying before Mom got home.

    4) The students who took over HMB in an act of civil disobedience were extremely brave, because they knowlingly risked their lives for the cause.

Malarkey. If they had actually considered their lives at risk they’d have bolted immediately. The protesters weren’t even willing to risk a stiff back and sleep in their beloved ‘Tent City” overnight – opting instead to pitch a tent, show up for the cameras, then sleep in their comfy beds at night. My apologies to the few who actually did sleep in their tents, but dudes, you got hosed.

    5) As a reward for following orders and perpetuating more oppression on campus by apprehending Ryan C on May 1, Jordan promoted Patrick Rader to the rank of Captain, giving more evidence that the Jordan administration was corrupt
Um – rewarding employees for doing their jobs under hazardous circumstances isn’t corrupt – it’s good business paractices.

Face it – Gallaudet security was doing their jobs under the risk of any one of the protestors going after them, but stuck to their jobs and their training and managed to not slap any one of them around. More than I could have promised for myself!

So see – just because it fits your agenda, your interpretation of events may not be right. You may be right, I may be right. I don’t know you, so I don’t know your track record, but I do tend to be right, so at least give my take on thesituation some consideration!

    Dale,

Not many people agree with you at all.

The point about DPS officer Patrick Rader is that he should have known that Jordan and Fernandes have a long history of oppressing students, faculty and staff. He was WILLING allowing himself to become an instrument of oppression. Therefore, he is an oppressor, too.

Patrick Rader should have quit his job along time ago, rather than oppress people.

    Meloyde Batten-Mickens is worse.

Ricky… do you report the money you receive from ads and donations to SSI? Aren’t you worried about losing your benefits? It is easy for anyone to report you since you include so much information about yourself on your blog such as age, full name, state you grew up. That is enough for SSI to find you. They can contact Pay Pal and find out how much was donated to you and contact the advertisers on your blog and find that out too. If you have not been reporting your extra income you will lose your SSI and have to pay back for overpayment. This happened to me many years ago so thought I would warn you.

  • 128. Ralph  |  January 7, 2007 at 4:20 pm

MM – who are you and what is your blogg address? Id like to see you back up your claims.

  • 129. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 7, 2007 at 4:45 pm

Kenny, what I do things is none of your concerns. I know what I’m doing and so far, it is legal.

But whether if I get SSI or a job, it is none of your business. All my friends knew that I do have some kind of job but I do not share any with you all.

    None of your business.

I see a lot of people are trying to oppress a Deaf blogger.

Do not resort to putting D/deaf people down. You have a list of great articles on DeafRead you can choose what to read or ignore.

D/deaf people are blogging because it is entertaining also newsworthy. Some blogs are like the National Enquirer, Times Magazine, Globe, and etc. This is an excellent choice for readers and I believe this will help D/deaf people become better readers/writers over time.

People in the past do not read much and the blog had changed that.

  • 131. K Lincoln  |  January 7, 2007 at 5:21 pm

    DeafL,
“Do not resort to putting D/deaf people down.”
I agree with you but why did these ignorant D/deaf protesters degraded both IKJ and JKF too much that sickened the public?

  • 132. Blue Fox  |  January 7, 2007 at 5:29 pm

    Kenny,
It’s good that Ridor sweats bullets now. He deserves it.

  • 133. ha ha ha  |  January 7, 2007 at 5:35 pm

Ridor implies above he has some kind of job on the side. Wonder if he is a male prostitute.

I pray that people will become more civilized by attacking the issue first and not the person.

It is a cycle that needs to be broken.

Wow what a soap opera from reading all those stories! that’s give me an idea to create new Deaf Soap Opera! BTW, Congrats Chris for making as one of the panelist at Deaf Blogger Conference. See you around

It does intrigue me so that while ricky insults individuals, even attacks their private lives, on his blog, folks here will suggest others pay him some sort of respect and not insult him…. odd…..

As for his SSI, that’s a gimme!

  • 138. anti-ridor  |  January 7, 2007 at 8:10 pm

you can suck my cock when I will give you donation.

  • 139. Susan  |  January 7, 2007 at 8:34 pm

It’s one thing if you want to insult people but another thing to be vulgar! There are kids and teenagers that read these blogs! You shoulld be ashamed of yourself.

  • 140. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 7, 2007 at 9:48 pm

138, sorry — I tend to have guys suck mine, not vice versa. You interested in that?

  • 141. Kristi  |  January 7, 2007 at 11:08 pm

I’m pretty excited about this conference, I look forward to learning some interesting ideas from the panelists and that I have something good to share myself. (deaf identities?! that’s such a fluid state, it all depends on the time and the context which is multifaceted! I’m thinking I need to buy a crystal ball so I can give a more accurate prediction of the future, nah, just kidding.). I look forward meeting y’all! Congratulations Chris, love your site!

Somebody asked what was my blog address. I’m not sure if that was a rhetoric question or an innocent question, but no matter. I do not have a blog site. I simply don’t think I have the time to be a regular blogger. (Well, technically that’s not true, I did start one about two months ago, but didn’t (and will not) share the address with anybody except very close friends because I’m still testing the waters to see if it’s something I can regularly maintain.)

Jill knew that from the get-go, I’ve made no pretense to appear otherwise. I don’t even think myself as a blogger, but I do know I put out some thoughts out there in the Internet, that’s for sure, lol! I believe she has explained her position crystal clear, her criteria has little to do with who has their own blogsiter, but with whether someone has contributed something original in the blogsphere and therefore, may have something interesting to say about the future of Gallaudet. At least that’s how I understand it.

Let’s be realistic, this is not a week long conference on bloggers/vloggers. Logistics such as securing fundings for people’s expenses and issue of time certainly dictates that Jill must utliize specific criteria for selection as she cannot simply invite every deaf blogger. Don’t like it? Then what’s the point in wasting time complaining about who is M.I.A. and use that time constructively to set up your own conference and secure your own funding to pay for people you want to see up on the stage.

And actually the guest blog on Deaf DC that I did (“A Fictitious Protest for Fictitious Reasons”) wasn’t really the only one I contributed, I am the KBM in the Deaf DC’s Julie Felman blog (“Also Split Along Racial Lines”-May 16). You may want to check out the one vlog that I did with Kayleen Pugh and Amy Efron (“Stop the Insanity- Unity for All” at youtube.com- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vae1-ninEE0).

  • 142. GrimReaper  |  January 7, 2007 at 11:23 pm

You’re so childish Richard. I predict that by the end of the year, your blog will be a has-been. Many new bloggers are springing up that have more interesting content. Your blog is old and tired. RIP ridorlive.com.

  • 143. Marvin Harris  |  January 8, 2007 at 12:47 am

Seems like a well balanced conference. I don’t understand all the fuss.

  • 144. the gryphon  |  January 8, 2007 at 6:41 am

Good lord Ridor! You’ve crossed the line now. Disgusting and childish.

  • 145. Deaf Truth  |  January 8, 2007 at 7:28 am

Ridor is losing its supporters. There is no more Gallaudet protests. There is nothing left for him. He is has been and washed out!

    His days are numbered!

  • 146. Yolanda D.  |  January 8, 2007 at 8:40 am

Are all the panelist protest supporters? You know some of us did not support it. I hope their views will also be included.

  • 147. ChrisH  |  January 8, 2007 at 8:42 am

    RidorLive.com

“Well, I averaged between 8,000 to 12,000 hits on good days. I averaged much less than $200 per month in donations. Not that I complain but the disproportionate numbers between Deaf bloggers and these hearing bloggers are glaring, is it?
It has nothing to do with who’s not getting a job or not. What I do with my employment is none of your business, period. In the last entry that I wrote focused on the disproportionate numbers of donations amongst the deaf blogs and hearing blogs.”

  • 148. floridagirl  |  January 8, 2007 at 9:25 am

I had a bad experienced about Ricky attacked me to free speech in his blog. It seemed not to be professional his appropriate behavior. That’s why I can’t give him donation

  • 149. MM  |  January 8, 2007 at 11:05 am

The UK has no serious deaf bloggers, they’re all mostly trivia and surprisingly not blogging about deaf issues, but making vids of cleaning their teeth and stuff, when I started blogging about deaf issues I was quickly bundled out, trivial pursuits reign in the UK.

My blog is listed in deafread (Ta !), regarding the Gallaudet issue I was the most prolific UK blogger providing coverage (OK I didn’t agree with it), but at least I’m honest, and declared this, I don’t just jump on any old deaf bandwagon and adopt the stance of a parrot.

Sad to say the USA is the only place for deaf blogs, and it is true, if you can’t take the heat….. Ridor undeniably has the edge regarding view ability and input, to ignore it seems pointless, it’s fact. I don’t always agree with him, perople don’t always agree with me, that’s life !

  • 150. Ockham's Razor  |  January 8, 2007 at 12:28 pm

Ricky, (although I do love the “malfoy” nickname, I’ll call you Ricky): You were not selected. Be a “man” and move on. Do not try to destroy this, simply out of spite. Had you been selected, you’d be signing Jill’s praises. Do the right thing, for once, and move on. Seriously.
To Chris: congrats. And sorry your blog has become something so base and ridiculous. Unfortunately, that seems to happen when some folks join the conversation.

It looks like the enemies, ikj and jk, are trying to divide us and break us apart with their devious tactics of making anonymous comments or using pseudo names.

Please, don’t allow them to win. Stay strong so we don’t fight with each other.

  • 153. Blue Fox  |  January 8, 2007 at 1:03 pm

  • 155. For Kristi from Jean Boutcher  |  January 8, 2007 at 1:26 pm

I assure you, Kristi, that it was not a rhetoric question. I have always enjoyed reading your intellgient posts on GallyNet; therefore, I asked in my previous message for your blogsite address so I would continue enjoy reading your thoughts. I am delighted that you were chosen as amongst the panelists for the conference. I am looking forward to seeing you and the others!

    Best wishes,
    Jean Boutcher

  • 156. The One and Only Ridor  |  January 8, 2007 at 1:34 pm

Ockham’s Razor: Please get a clue!

I was invited to a party in DC on that day — only reserved for “important bloggers” — but no, like I said earlier, I already made plans for Salt lake City where I will work to make the Deaflympics successful.

Now, that is man enough for me to do something good for the community, can you say the same thing? methinks not.

    Mike of Kokonutpundits
    Joey Baer
    Mishkazena

    Can’t wait!

  • 158. Ockham's Razor  |  January 8, 2007 at 4:17 pm

  • 159. anti-ridor  |  January 8, 2007 at 6:59 pm

You see what Ricky wrote some words. #158

Did you hear Ricky ask for donations ?

  • 160. Chris Leon  |  January 8, 2007 at 7:35 pm

Thanks to all of you for sharing your views on this blog. It’s nice to see some of my fellow bloggers posting here.

Thank you Jill, for answering questions about the conference. And Kristi, I’m really looking forward to meeting you. I’m a fan of your writing.

I’m only sorry to see that people continue to go off topic and resort to personal attacks. The attacks are becoming more vicious and this is really not cool.

I’m all for freedom of expression. You can call someone a jerk, but implying they are a child molester, for instance, when they aren’t, is NOT OKAY. That’s libel, plain and simple. You can be sued. You are responsible for what you write. Please be sure what you write is TRUE and can be backed up with proof.

    Peace out,
    Chris

  • 161. Blue Fox  |  January 8, 2007 at 8:12 pm

    Chris,
    Well written.
I have no respect for anyone who has low moral standing and it is important for the bloggers and comment writers to have high moral standings due to some readers who are kids. Well I, myself, am an adult but I dread to read anything vulgar.

  • 162. Dale R. Patterson  |  January 8, 2007 at 8:28 pm

Agreed – just because Ridor slanders folks twice a week on his blog is no excuse to do the same to him – that’s just sinking to his own level.

  • 163. Deep Ears  |  January 8, 2007 at 9:34 pm

It’s easy to see that ikj and his friends are posting anonymous comments on blogs or using pseudo names. They are trying to put propaganda on blogs and also try to make us fight with each other.

  • 164. Ockham's Razor  |  January 9, 2007 at 7:33 am

Deep Ears: I think that’s rather paranoid. I dislike Ridolive. I dislike Ricky “malfoy” Ridor. I state that openly I find his blog distasteful and reckless.

I’m a strong supporter of the protest, and appreciate blogs like Mishka’s, Elisa’s, Joey Baer’s, Chris Leon’s…

You claim that IKJ’s friends are trying to “make us fight with eachother”…. when in reality it is RIDOR who has made this conference a contentious issue. It is RIDOR who is trying to make folks fight.
    cheers

  • 165. anon  |  January 9, 2007 at 7:34 am

As far as the bit about number of hits versus number of donations between deaf/hearing bloggers, that’s simply nonsense. I don’t know who Ridor met, but the vast, vast majority of hearing bloggers make very little to nothing on their blogs, as well. $3K a month from a blog is truely in an elite status that few hearing blogs reach. In addition, it’s not usually from user donations, but from ads and such.

  • 166. Tommy  |  January 9, 2007 at 9:36 am

Will there be access (RSS Live feed) for those who are interested in participating via internet?

I find it ironic that this will be the first b/vlog conference to discuss the ‘global’ deaf media being networked, but there is no outside access to this conference?

    T

  • 167. Jill Bradbury  |  January 9, 2007 at 10:28 am

Tommy – for sure we’ll provide access via realtime captioning. I’m working on setting up realtime text participation. I want to have live video feed too, but the Gallaudet tech department says it doesn’t have the capacity to do this. ?? I’m looking at other possibilities now. I’m no tech expert, so I can’t tell you now what exactly we’ll be able to and why/why not. But we’re definitely aware of the importance of making the conference accessible online.

  • 168. m  |  January 9, 2007 at 11:27 am

Ridor doesn’t fake his numbers on his blog, I click on it 9990 times a day when I’m bored at work.

I don’t donate because I’m poor, and my son has this crazy idea that I should feed and clothe him. Plus, if I happen to have a little extra money, I would give it to an actual charity.

  • 169. stacy gonzales  |  January 9, 2007 at 1:00 pm

Chris, love your blog! I read on ridor’s blog that you won’t be attending the conference. I’m really disappointed about that. We have several mutual friends and I was really looking forward to finally meeting in person. I’m sure our paths will eventually cross. In the meantime, keep blogging! :)

  • 170. Bison Hunter  |  January 9, 2007 at 5:27 pm

This seems to have turned into a Ridor-bash-fest. After years of the abuse Ridor has dished out and his recent attacks on those invited to the Deaf Blog/Vlog conference,it was only a matter of time before people got fed up with him and started giving him some of his own medicine.

  • 171. JBrown  |  January 9, 2007 at 9:09 pm

Bison Hunter, I agree that Ridor is being through Karma tasing his medicine after attacking at JKF and IKJ repeately and repeately. I did not know which side to go on but after I saw all these attacks from MZ, Shroeder, Baer, Brian Riley and a cartoonist I became so sick and embarrassed. They thought it was fun but they forgot all about how small the deaf world is. They were so ignorant about what would happen in the end with the deaf society. They may be good writers and vbloggers but they can be so embarrassed in the end that the deaf world divided strongly. I am still so embarrassed about the effigy, aw these savages!

  • 175. Bison Chaser  |  January 11, 2007 at 8:11 pm

In Joey Braer’s vlog, David Eberwein asked all of us to try to solve the problem with social context…comment assaults.
Well it was all the other blogger’s fault for keeping us closed by deleting our comments rudely when we wanted to debate about why we wanted to water the protest down to save our children. Then after they “won” the protest and now they ask us to join them to debate to understand each other better to save our children while they should have done BEFORE Jane was violenty assaulted then was forced to be terminated..
Baloney! The protesters damaged children, NOT us, remember that!

  • 177. Ockham's Razor  |  January 12, 2007 at 1:01 pm

  • 180. Yeoman  |  April 7, 2007 at 2:53 am

David Eberwein was a bully when he was a student at Gallaudet. He did not practice what he preached so it was useless to listen to a person who enjoyed terrorizing others.
